ABSTRACT

The thesis that artistic ability or interest is linked in men to identification with their mothers is a familiar one to analysts. This chapter presents the observations gathered from three little transsexual boys that support data found in the analyses of adults. While the talents are rudimentary, the ardor with which the children watch and critically evaluate related displays of their mothers’ femininity have astonished all three mothers. The boys are constantly giving their mothers advice, and the mothers consider their sons’ taste better than many adults’, and comment on the originality of the boys’ suggestions for modish style. Many children are expressive and creative until the ego strengths of latency mute their imagination.
