ABSTRACT

A mother with trans-sexual tendencies will still not make her boy transsexual if she does not transmit onto the boy’s body her own transsexual feelings, especially by holding him too much. Listening to these mothers talking of this quality gave an impression of something more than tomboyishness. They went through a phase that was filled with conscious transsexual desires. Unlike transsexual females, they do not express these desires from infancy on, or try more and more to act like boys, eventually to pass in the world as men, nor do they seek out sex-transformation procedures. In addition, she did not use her sons in the same way the other mothers did, to fill up an emptiness produced in childhood by the mother’s own empty mother; while feeling wonderfully fulfilled during her pregnancies, deliveries, and early mothering of her infants, she did not hold them against her body excessively.
