ABSTRACT

The mandate of the American Association of Suicidology is to promote suicide prevention and a better understanding of suicidal people. The crude, warm freshness of the common people goes missing in consequence; their own discourse is so mixed that they flounder while trying to decide whether suicide studies should be “multidisciplinary” or a specialized discipline, an independent science with its own terminology. Most relevantly, they succumb to the pragmatic nerve of Western thought, insofar as their key objective is to discover ways to enhance the communicative skills of potential suicide victims. The genuine suicide attempt might take place while the husband or wife is taking a shower. In psychiatric, the defunct word “hysteria” also describes the suicidal gesture. The idea that suicide might manifest dignity is anathema to any system-sanctioned structure. From the point of view of the establishment, suicide must be eradicated.
