ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses shamanic journey and soul retrieval. The first distinguishing character of the shamanic journey is the use of a ritual setting. The second distinguishing character of the shamanic journey is the shamanic universe. An introduction to the composite shamanic model of the psyche, animal allies and wise persons, and the importance of these, is an essential part of establishing clear ground rules prior to a shamanic journey. The concept of the composite shamanic model could be seen as imposing a structure or a constraint on the imagination. Soul retrieval is a shamanic journey that has the specific intention of retrieving a lost part of the client's soul energy and restoring their vital essence, in the above example their sense of innocence or self-esteem. "Soul deliverance" is a ceremony for removing an attachment; the soul is delivered from the grip of the attachment.
