ABSTRACT
The French edition of The Analyzing Situation contains studies centred on the topographical, economic, and, above all, dynamic dimensions of the said situation: for example, I explore the new ‘royal road’ of Freudian agieren (‘enactment’) by focusing on the specific relations that transferential regression confers on enacting speech; I also discuss the question of the links between working-through and silence, the silence of an intra-psychic latency that is necessary for the symbolizing operation of après-coup, as well as the general problem of the destiny of the transference as such, in its impersonal register, beyond the analytic object-relation. But these chapters seemed to me rather too dense and closely linked to the French semantic context; and so I thought it preferable, in a book destined for English-speaking readers, to complete the first part with chapters less centred on the analytic working situation.
