ABSTRACT

In the western world, where the perspective of the left hemisphere dominates, the first aspect of life to suffer is its central coherence. The "bits" of something assumes greater importance than the whole picture. Gathering information "bit by bit" is a poor substitute for knowledge gained from experience. This allows the big picture to be seen. There is a scientific comparison with Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, which is a concept from quantum mechanics and was proposed in 1927. The five stages of Bilateral Affective Reprocessing of Thoughts (BART) are explained. Each stage is explained in images and then words. This appeals to the strengths of the right and left hemispheres, respectively. The aim is for therapist, patient, and client to have a coherent overall view of the process, which will enhance their therapeutic gain. A key reason for the success of BART psychotherapy and peak performance is that It is fully informed by affective neuroscience and neuroanatomy.
