ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the role of BART peak performance in helping clients to become expert in their chosen discipline. It shows how BART psychotherapy is applied in achieving peak performance alongside using feedback, so that future predicted states are more accurate. The key is to simulate being in the zone and can be summarised as lack of time awareness, autotelicity, the sweet spot, and automaticity. Factors relevant in developing optimal or peak performance are stressors, challenge, and meta cognition. There is a flow chart illustrating the concept of being in the zone. The role of normal and aberrant sleep architecture is explained. This can be activated via the imagery of mentally re-performing the chosen activity, for example, in sports such as golf, football, or rugby, and for those in business, on stage, or those in performing arts, where anxiety can impair performance.
