ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the nature of the chakra energies as understood by eastern traditions with a superimposition of western scientific thinking in terms of the endocrine organs they represent. There is also a proposed link to sacred geometry and intentional prayers. The chakras, in ascending order, are the earth star, root or spinal cord chakra, and sacral chakras. These are followed by the solar, heart, and throat chakras. The chapter illustrates the reaction of the brain to fear and stress and the concepts of altered levels of arousal and dissociation experienced by the patient or client. It outlines the nature of the main chakras, both internal to the body itself and external. The chapter presents an example of how to activate the fourth chakra, using Bilateral Affective Reprocessing of Thoughts (BART) psychotherapy, can connect the individual energy of the first three chakras with their universal life energy.
