ABSTRACT

Julian's mother, Mrs. C, consulted me in a state of exhaustion. She said she could no longer cope with her fourteen-month-old boy. She complained that he was exceedingly demanding and very domineering; she didn't dare oppose him. In fact, she said she was so intimidated by what she experienced as a display of superior force that she obeyed him like a slave. She often complained about the misery of her servitude. Her description seemed exaggerated from the start; for example, she said that unless she kept constant watch, he would destroy everything in his room. She also had to make sure he did not seriously hurt another child.
