ABSTRACT

This chapter considers some aspects of desire and the fantasme and examines the notion of the drive. The difference between fantasme and phantasy lies in that the latter, although knotting itself to the former and surrounding it, has to be distinguished from it in so far as it does not lead to the structure. As desire is the real, it is the essence of reality and it receives its support from the fantasme. In order to articulate a bit more the function of the fantasme, it is necessary to work on the function it has as "veil" or "screen", apart from considering it as the frame of reality. The function that the analyst puts to work is the function "desire of the analyst". The fantasme implies a relationship between the veil, which conceals, and the screen, over which the image is projected.
