ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author explores the processes of change and balance as reflected in the hexagrams for the contemporary reader. The waters of the earth are gathered together in a lake. This hexagram addresses the situation where individuals – or individual aspects of one person – are drawn together more or less intentionally. This hexagram differs from Pi / Holding Together in that the latter concerns the general flowing together of all the waters of the earth as they move towards the seas and oceans. When we are drawn to a gathering or a joint undertaking, we should consider whether something lasting is likely to be the outcome, something of value. In the thick of our searching or questioning, our efforts to become a coherent individual, we may lose our sense of what it is we want from others, or from the 'outside' world.
