ABSTRACT

Thomas was twelve years boy. He was referred by the family doctor, who wrote: Thomas has never been dry at night. Thomas has taken amitriptyline 50 mg nocte, but this did not help and neither did attendance at an enuresis clinic two and four years ago. Thomas was perhaps small for his age, but he was obviously a healthy child, very intelligent and well-attuned to the people around him. He would occasionally throw in some remark, adding something to his mother’s account. The author suggests that Mrs T should explore the minimal effective dose of desmopressin and that she should investigate the time when Thomas usually wets his bed, as she might try to wake him up just before that time. Mrs T was able to believe that she could offer effective help and Thomas managed to regain control of his body.
