ABSTRACT

Many years ago, I attempted to carry out an experimental study to check whether this split images phenomenon would occur in other than a clinical situation. It soon became clear that my ability as a research worker did not reach the required standards that might give credibility to my findings. Nevertheless, I did see instances where split images were clearly present. What was the level of incidence? A very important question, but I cannot offer a proper answer. I visited art college classes, each with different numbers of students who volunteered to take part in my experiment. In one group, I found four “positive” cases out of thirteen students, while in another class of twelve students I found one case where an image had been clearly split into two.
