ABSTRACT

A person is one who has embraced the elements through the agency of an inner emotional principle so there is a oneness guided from within; a foreign body being discharged from the outside just cannot enter because of the inner coherence. Love opens the personality to the ultimate whereas hatred focuses it in, upon a target that is narrower than itself. The personality is affected by the goal towards which it relates and with which it participates. Becoming a person opens the personality to the torture of guilt. There are two actions that characterise the human being’s relation to the world—centripetal and centrifugal. At each point in the fashioning of the person there is a confrontation with past regrets, knowledge of one’s fate, a vision of the culture, and the sight of our evolutionary stage.
