ABSTRACT

Due to its rich knowledge concerning early development and trauma psychoanalysis is able to contribute a great deal to the field of early prevention. The Sigmund Freud Institute (SFI), in close cooperation with the Institute for Psychoanalytic Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, has been engaged in several early prevention programmes since 2003: the Frankfurter Prevention Study, “Starthilfe”, “EVA”, and “First Steps”. One of the main goals of the EVA project is to support especially high risk children with the disorganised attachment type by applying the psychanalytical prevention programme—in the best case to develop and transform the attachment type towards a secure attachment. In the framework of the EVA project the authors have the unique chance to combine clinical and extraclinical psychoanalytical research. The chapter presents a case study of Mesud, which illustrates to open some intermediate spaces for dreaming and for playing—for their own psychic development.
