ABSTRACT

The way the organization presents itself is a message to the author about two things. The first message is about how they see themselves moving forward. The second message is about how they want to relate to author. Agencies can come to a clear self-diagnosis because one individual or group has prevailed over another, silencing other voices, in which case help may by needed to bring other voices into the conversation. However, they can also remain uncertain because many voices are supported, in which case help may be called for to discuss the necessity to use power and experience to prioritize agency needs and agree to one direction. Assuming that the opening conversation has led to an agreement between staff and facilitator, it is imperative that the conversation concludes with some mutual understanding about what will be done, and by whom, during the consultation process.
