ABSTRACT

Spiritual or religious groups that ignore the darkness and suffering within the individual can only provide superficial or defensive relief. With the emergence of light after the dark night of the soul, there is a burst of energy and healing. The search for integration, be it in the form of art, literature, architecture, spirit, or human relations testifies to the dissatisfaction with the fragmented state and provides the spiritual and emotional fuel for the journey of individuation or a greater integration of the whole personality. Many people are struck by the storms of life: traumas and tragedies, perhaps the death of a loved one, or illness, betrayals and abandonment, the injustices of life. The illustration and poem shows a simple event—the mid-life turning of a human being. The pilgrimage starts with the separation from the demands of everyday existence.
