ABSTRACT

This approach is based on the data analysis of maturational progression of the neurobiological substrate that underlie the intrapsychic functioning that contributes to body self-experience. The earliest aspect of the beginning of a developmental line of body image begins with a centredness on autonomic regulatory processes through establishment of body image boundaries to cognitive differentiation of the inner space of the body image. Lemche considers the following eight parameters to be of significance as he builds his developmental line of body image. The SELF is represented in the brain during development and it provides the centre of gravity for the emergence of affective consciousness in brain evolution. Although adult human experience also relies on higher brain representations of emotional systems, those higher functions could not subsist without the integrity of the lower functions.
