ABSTRACT

Part III consists of five chapters discussing the contributions to the transformational self from very different disciplines, or domains of knowledge. In Chapter Six, the author presents contemporary thinking about metaphor as a core component of the transformational self. In Chapter Seven, the author approaches attachment theory as the framework allowing us to place the transformational self in a state of ongoing interpersonal connectedness. In Chapter Eight, the author discusses discoveries from neuroscience research findings and hypotheses about those findings as generating meaningful linkages to the biological roots of the transformational self. In Chapter Nine, the author reflects on how non-linear dynamic systems theory explains functional aspects of the transformational self. In Chapter Ten, the author elaborates on the conceptual significance of prefrontal cortical maturation along with its enhanced neural connectivity and the opportunity it provides for thinking in a different way about closure to the adolescent phase.
