ABSTRACT
In this chapter, the author presents a case history of child Charles at age of 9. The case illustrates the way in which the understanding of a detail was necessary. The main principles hold, that the child gradually gets a sense of the emotional climate in the interview and unfolds himself. This boy had been referred by a colleague who also had an interview with him, and a Child Guidance Clinic had not succeeded in making useful contact. From the parents' point of view what they all did subsequently depended a great deal on Charles' communication with the author’s in this first psychotherapeutic consultation and the lessening of the story of the threat of acute mental confusion.
