ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author presents a case history of child Lily of 5 years old. The brief statement about a girl is inserted to illustrate not so much the interview technique as the way in which the subject of stealing turns up quite naturally in association with transitional phenomena, so that the study of the one involves the study of the other. Lily was brought to the author’s clinic at the Paddington Green Children's Hospital in 1956. The treatment of this case had to do with bringing the family to recognise that they were in a state of strain and that someone needed a holiday. If the case had been dealt with by the author’s has arranged a treatment for the girl, this would have increased the tendency of the family to disrupt.
