ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author presents a case history of child Robert at age of 9. Robert belongs to a family which is very much a 'going concern'. There is a very definite sense of responsibility in the parents, and they are both able to tolerate bad times if there is the hope of a satisfactory outcome. Robert showed a good deal of constructiveness in his play, but this has lessened and he has become slowed up generally. The slowness seems to be a symptom of a mild depressive mood which affects the child both at home and at school. The school put down the difficulties at school to the home situation, but the home is essentially a good one and the trouble must be put down to difficulties in the boy's own nature, inherent difficulties belonging to emotional growth.
