ABSTRACT

A facilitator is really a coach for a group or team. A team can be as small as two people, or as large as a district staff. Like a coach, a skilled facilitator works in service of the team to accomplish an outcome and knows how to direct the team’s energy and processes so the team has emotionally safe and structured ways to engage in important work. Each member of the team is a unique individual with their own goals, motivations, strengths, needs, and levels of will and skill. The bridge between outcomes and people is the processes the team undertakes together. From time to time a superintendent, principal, or supervisor will ask a tech coach to present about a new technology or innovative method for the entire staff of a team, building, or district. Teams move from forming to storming.
