ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a decision-making schema tech coaches which can use when asked to lead system-wide projects. It explores two real-world examples of this decision-making schema in action. The chapter considers other digital education spaces in which the leadership of tech coaches is needed. Coaches need to understand how initiatives are developed, researched, piloted, and implemented in their systems so that they are able to successfully guide new ideas into reality for teachers and students. Leading from the middle is an interesting position because it requires coaches to be able to understand and navigate two worlds—the world of classroom teaching and the world of school and district leadership—with equal ease. A valuable skill coaches need to develop, whether working one-on-one with teachers, coaching teams, or leading initiatives is how to research, understand the possibilities of the technology or application, synthesize, and be able to instruct others on how to effectively integrate.
