ABSTRACT

In June 1787 Anupgir wrested Samthar from the Gujars and put Umrao in possession of Jhansi. The two commanders roved across this taluq with their bands and completely ruined 29, out of its 42 villages. But by this time the staggering Nawab of Oudh had risen to his feet; the Congress of Chapra had restored him to his territories; he drafted the Gosains back to service. In February 1772, Shuja's capital was rocked by an explosion arising out of an armed conflict between two different corps of his army. Sabit Khanis and Ihilangis. Shuja chose the occasion for sending Anupgiri to the emperor's court, along with Sindhia's envoy Bahirji Takpir. In July 1772 the Gosain in concert with Elich Khan succeeded in settling contribution of the fugitive Ruhela chiefs, payable to Shuja and effecting the release of the captive wives and children of Zabita Khan.
