ABSTRACT

The school needs to give a great deal of attention to the hidden curriculum and the inferred curriculum of attitudes and reactions to such children and their work. The national curriculum brings with it an obligation to ensure that pupils have access to as much of the curriculum as possible. The national curriculum is being formulated on the premise that all pupils are entitled to as much of the curriculum as they are able to assimilate. A more clearly defined curriculum makes the school's task and the expectations of parents clearer and enables teachers to concentrate more on the learning and teaching process. School should prepare all pupils for adult life as family members, parents, workers, people with leisure time and citizens. Home and school together enable a child to develop a self-image which is made up from the reactions of others to the child's behaviour. It is important for learning and for social behaviour that the self-image is positive.
