ABSTRACT

Danielle I. Szlawieniec-Haw tackles the third theme that emerged from her world-first research into professional actors’ lived experiences of representing dolesse: forms of attention and care. First, Szlawieniec-Haw looks at personal forms of attention and care, breaking these down into the physical, mental, and emotional. Then, she moves on to structural forms, which address workplace and industry-wide forms of attention and care. As there are few structural forms of attention and care in place, Szlawieniec-Haw also considers ones that actors would like to have available to them, as well as structural concerns and pressures her participants reported. The chapter concludes with an exploration of interpersonal forms of attention and care.
