ABSTRACT

The human face is a network of bone, sinew, and flesh. Each area has a name and a reason why it exists. “Facial Anatomy” explores terms for the three different layers of the face. The section on skeletal structure discusses the key parts of the skull and why they are important. The section on musculature introduces students to muscles that control expression. These parts are easy to identify on the face and are often accentuated in specialty makeups. The last section discusses the epidermal layer or the skin. It is the most visible section of the three and the one where makeup is actually applied. Knowing what the regions of the face are called allows students to have educated makeup conversations. The three figures in the chapter easily depict each area and the term that it represents.
