ABSTRACT

The process of applying to graduate school to pursue a career as a forensic psychologist can be challenging and complex. This chapter, which focuses on doctoral programs (PhD/PsyD), reviews the various components of graduate school applications, including a curriculum vitae/resume, letters of recommendation, personal statements, standardized tests, and academic records. This chapter also describes potential “kisses of death,” which are application elements that increase the likelihood of an applicant being rejected. Components of a typical interview day for doctoral programs and relevant tips to prepare for interviews are also discussed. Lastly, this chapter presents factors to weigh when considering whether to accept or reject an offer of admission, and what to do if an applicant does not receive an interview offer or is not accepted into a doctoral program.
