It never had been a beautiful town but when the works closed down it became uglier still. A lot of shops are boarded up. The ones that struggle on sell cheapjack goods, tattoos and betting slips, and the discount stores in the precinct peddle yesterday’s fashions. The only hotel was demolished years ago. No one ever stayed. That is where they built the bypass.
