ABSTRACT
When travelling by train or bus, or sitting in a restaurant, it is common to see people staring at personal devices – they may be watching a show or scrolling through social media. When travelling by air, our vision is filled by an eye-level screen through which we have access to hundreds of choices – movies, TV, games and music. Asked about the benefits of driverless cars, a representative of a major manufacturer said that, during the journey, people can continue to watch a movie they had started at home. Walking along the street, people constantly check their phones. And today’s living room is incomplete without a state-of-the-art TV and sound system. Entertainment has become an all-consuming aspect of modern life.
