ABSTRACT
After a three-year hiatus I have come back to Syros to teach a week-long design workshop to students at the University of the Aegean. I was here before as part of an international programme, which brought together professors and students from the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Greece and the UK. This time it is just my research associate and myself. It means we are able to spend more time with the Greek students and I learn more about them and their perspectives. The week has been noticeably calmer and more reflective. Their presentations are beautifully put together and they are very knowledgeable about the island – many of the students were born and brought up here and they reveal aspects of the place I had not heard about during my earlier visits.
