ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book describes about a teaching approach for all children in the primary classroom. It also describes about a teaching approach which enables children with special needs of all descriptions to flourish and make discernible and significant academic progress. The book examines that it is important for teachers to understand the possible links between their own behaviours and belief systems and the academic behaviours and achievements of their pupils, therefore the rationale that the authors work with is carefully laid out below. It details some of the methods and strategies from counselling psychology and may be familiar to teachers from personal and social education. The book develops an approach which combines skills teaching within and through the subject curriculum.
