ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the Single-session therapy (SST) which is quite a diverse field. SST can be initiated by the client, by both the therapist and the client jointly, by the therapist or by an interested third party. Therapist–client jointly initiated SST that occurs in one of two situations. First, it occurs when both the client and the therapist agree that they will only meet for one session. Second, it occurs when they agree that they will try to get the work done in that one session, but that a further session are available should the client indicate the need. Clinical demonstrations are single sessions of therapy where the therapist demonstrates their approach to therapy with a volunteer from the audience. The audience is usually comprised of trained and trainee therapists when the demonstrations occur in a professional workshop setting or of a mixture of therapists and interested lay people when the demonstrations occur in workshops open to a mixed audience.
