ABSTRACT

Consistent with the idea that Single-session therapy (SST) is a way of delivering services and is not a therapeutic model or approach in its own right, SST can be practised by therapists from a variety of therapeutic approaches. Thus, in Michael Hoyt and MosheTalmon, a publication based on the first 'Capturing the Moment' (CTM 1) international conference that took place in Melbourne, Australia, in March 2012, the following therapeutic approaches to SST are represented. Solution-focused approaches; approaches that create a hypnotic experience; approaches that help alter the patient's problem-governing rules; neurolinguistic programming (NLP); emotional freedom techniques (EFT); and equine-assisted therapy. In their introduction to an edited book that was based on the second 'Capturing the Moment' (CTM 2) conference that took place in Banff, Canada in September 2015, Hoyt et al. appear to argue that there are two different approaches to SST. The first one might be termed 'constructive' approaches and the other 'active-directive' approaches.
