ABSTRACT

The goal of single-session therapy (SST) is to help promote movement. Clients often come to therapy because they are stuck. Stuckness is a state where there is no constructive movement in the client. The client is stuck and joins forces with the therapist. As a consequence of their joint efforts, the client becomes unstuck. At this point, the therapist stands back, and the client moves on with their life. So, the best way to get unstuck is to do something different and SST therapists are adept at helping clients to look for steps that they can take that will help them eventually get unstuck. The important thing is that the client sees the value of taking initial steps and can see that taking them will promote change. If the client can take a potentially constructive step, then they will soon discover the results of taking this step.
