ABSTRACT

Therapist intentionality in Single-session therapy (SST) is marked by the therapist holding and communicating the idea that if the client is ready to work hard so is the therapist in helping the client to solve their problem as quickly as possible, perhaps in the first session. Client intentionality in SST is also marked by the keenness that the client shows in solving their problem as quickly as possible. With such keenness comes two kinds of openness. First, the client is willing to be very open about: their problem; their goal; and why they want to achieve a solution as quickly as possible. Second, the client is open in the sense of being willing to consider a range of potential solutions and choosing the one that both suits them best and is most likely to bring about a quick solution.
