ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the do's and don'ts in Single-session therapy (SST). It describes certain points that have been gathered from various sources such as Bernard Bloom, Moshe Talmon, K. E. Paul, van Ommeren and Windy Dryden: engage the client quickly through the work; be clear about why we are here, what we can do and what we can't do, be prudently active; be focused and help the client stay focused; and ensure that this forward focus is underpinned by a value if possible. When the client is mindful of their values, they will tend to pursue their goal even when the going gets tough. If an SST-related value is identified, encourage the client to keep this mind when working both in the session and after the session.
