ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses what information is useful for the therapist to obtain. The therapist can then draw upon this information to help the person reach their goals. When SST is by appointment rather than by walk-in, some SST therapists like to prepare themselves and their clients for the face-to-face session by having pre-session contact with the clients. The purpose of this pre-session contact is to help the person get the most from the session that follows. Reasons for current help-seeking. It is useful for the therapist to know why the person is seeking help now. Such information can be used to help the person as soon as possible since the person is in pain now and wants help now. This is why it is important to schedule the face-to-face session as soon as possible after the pre-session contact. Others who are involved. It is important that the SST therapist finds who else is involved in the problem.
