      ABSTRACT

The Single-Session Therapy (SST) therapist is oriented to helping the client to identify their strengths, meaning positive internal aspects of themself that they can bring to the single session and use to help them solve their problem. The SST therapist also helps the client to identify external resources that may also help them to solve their problem. If a pre-session contact has taken place between the therapist and the client, then the therapist may have devoted some time to help the client identify relevant strengths and resources that could be used in general to aid the SST process. The best time to discuss the possible use of strengths and resources in the face-to-face session is when the therapist and the client have agreed to target a particular problem and have set a goal. It is important to realise that the client may need to use different strengths with different potential solutions.
