ABSTRACT

Take-homes refer to anything of substance that the client 'takes home' with them that serves to help them to implement the solution that they co-created with their therapist. Wherever possible, it is useful for clients to have a written note of various take-homes. This raises the question of who should provide the written note. Some single-session therapy therapists tend to provide written notes of salient points and give them to their clients at the end of the session. This is particularly valuable for clients who would appreciate having something to take away with them in the therapist's own hand. Other therapists favour the client making such written notes for themselves since doing so increases the client's sense of ownership of the point represented by the note. Therapists informed by pluralism would tend to ask the client which approach they would favour.
