ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a variety of different forms of Single-Session Therapy (SST). It focuses on the use of clinical demonstrations. A clinical demonstration is a single session of therapy which is usually practised in the context of a wider therapy training workshop. The workshop focuses on a therapy approach e.g. person-centred therapy, on a way of working with clients e.g. the use of chairwork in therapy, on a client issue, concern or problem e.g. substance abuse or some combination thereof e.g. the use of chairwork with clients who have problems with procrastination. The purpose of a clinical demonstration is to show the workshop attendees a model of good practice which they can then try out for themselves in a peer counselling context practising the approach with one another as they seek to learn and develop relevant skills. The main purpose of these demonstrations is for the workshop leader/therapist to demonstrate a therapeutic way of working to the watching audience.
