ABSTRACT

Filmed training tapes are a special form of Single-Session Therapy (SST). In the majority of cases, the therapist and the client have not met before and will probably not meet again. While filmed training tapes are examples of SST they differ from SST with clients. The purpose of filmed training tapes is two-fold: educational and therapeutic. It aims to provide information to trainees in the field of psychotherapy as well as to provide therapeutic help to the client who has volunteered and given their informed consent to participate in a project which is likely to have wide exposure. By contrast, the exclusive purpose of SST with clients is therapeutic. Following the film, the therapist and sometimes the client are interviewed by a third person who is usually a trained therapist and has some role in the production of the films.
