ABSTRACT

The Talis are distinguished by name and by myths of origin from the Namoos. The clans and lineages of the Talis form corporate units of the same kind as those of the Namoos. They are connected with one another by a network of constituted ties of the same type as those that link Namoo clans and lineages in a chain system, but elaborately distributed and articulated. Zubiun consists of three maximal lineages, residentially distributed in a way that exactly parallels their structural relations. The integration of the clan on the religious plane is characteristic of its corporate solidarity in all matters of common interest. Corresponding to the structural differentiation within the clan, each maximal lineage has its distinct field of clanship. The attached lineage of Pulien biis shares the extra-clan ties of clanship of the authentic lineage of the Yakradem, but it has addition a tie of clanship independent of the authentic lineage.
