ABSTRACT

The concluding chapter is much more than a summary or overview of the research. Based on the evidence provided from the survey data and the chief and tactical officer interview information, some fundamental themes of modern policing and their use of tactical units were revealed. First, there is substantial miscommunication between the police, public, and policy-makers based on misinformation, myths, and emotion. Second, there may be unreasonable public expectations regarding the police, in that the public appears to be selective in the utility and need for militarized policing, and there must be near perfection in its use. The concluding chapter provides direction for future research in police militarization.
