ABSTRACT

As until very recently, representations of undocumentedness have not been addressed in literary and cultural scholarship, this book investigates the interrelationships between the genesis of the undocumented youth movement since 2001 and the concomitant publication of undocumented life narratives from 2001 to 2016. The introduction not only familiarizes its readers with the undocumented (youth) movement, but also provides the conceptual, generic and theoretical background against which life narratives and self-representations by undocumented migrants are analyzed in this book. To do so, firstly, the population at the heart of this investigation is introduced to the reader in detail. Subsequently, this chapter provides the reader with some methodological clues on how to classify and read life narratives produced by this group, and ultimately presents an outline of argument of this book.
