ABSTRACT
Gandhi was certainly influenced by the tolerant Islam of Ghaffar Khan and his non-fanatical reading of the Qur’an, but it is true that the spiritual teachings of the Mahatma and his political pragmatism captivated the minds of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan as well. This chapter sheds light on how both Gandhi and Ghaffar Khan did not differentiate between the Hindus and the Muslims on religious principles. The differences emerged, according to them, due to the lack of truthfulness and transparency in the political realm. Therefore, this chapter shows how, as social reformers, Gandhi and Ghaffar Khan believed strongly in the affinity between spirituality and politics.
