ABSTRACT

This introductory chapter highlights both the importance and the challenge of answering the question: “what makes Methodist worship Methodist or Wesleyan?” It then offers “liturgical biography” as a much-needed approach to answering this question while also evaluating emerging forms of worship within Methodism. The chapter concludes with a brief introduction to the three persons considered in the book: Thomas O. Summers, Nolan B. Harmon, and James F. White.
