ABSTRACT
Chapter One introduces the reader to Thomas O. Summers by exploring seminal events in his life as well as providing a sketch of his personality. It next expands the focus by offering a brief synopsis of Summers’ context. The chapter then explores the significance of Summers’ work as a Methodist liturgical historian. It concludes by arguing that Summers should be considered as the first American Methodist liturgical scholar.
