ABSTRACT

Internet meme creation and propagation involve innumerable aesthetic approaches, often leveraging a mundane image to offer critical commentary regarding a real-world issue. The practice of taking available content and remixing it for critical observation is demonstrated in the following diverse range of examples. As an initial example, the video parody of television genres known as Too Many Cooks serves the purpose well. The Too Many Cooks video was published on the Adult Swim YouTube channel in November 2014 and is perhaps best described as merging absurd and surreal approaches to humor. Dada was an art and literary movement which began in Zurich in 1916 during the brutal realities of the First World War, then known as The Great War. The individuals associated with Dada assembled at Cafe Voltaire in Zurich and used the venue to express their indignation and horror at the outbreak of war around them.
